Ankara [Turkey], October 24: CNN reported on October 24 that at least 5 people were killed and 22 injured in a terrorist attack at the Turkish Aerospace Industries Corporation (TUSAS) in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said two gunmen, a man and a woman, were killed. Vice President Cevdet Yilma said the dead included four TUSAS employees and the taxi driver who drove the attackers to the scene of the attack.
A video posted on social media shows the moment an explosion rocked the TUSAS headquarters on October 23, before a gunman runs through a parking lot. In another video, attackers wearing backpacks and carrying guns approach the entrance to the group's headquarters.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Turkish Defense Minister Yasar Guler told reporters that the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) could be behind the incident. The PKK is considered a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the European Union and the United States.
Mr Guler did not identify the attackers, but said "we (Türkiye) punish the disgraceful PKK members as they deserve time and time again, but they never seem to learn anything".
Minister Yerlikaya later said that while the process of identifying the attackers was still underway, initial assessments showed that the PKK was behind the attack.
Reuters quoted NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte as condemning the attack and saying the military alliance would stand with member Türkiye.
US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Washington "strongly condemns" the attack. "While we do not yet know the motive or who is behind this incident, we strongly condemn this act of violence," he said.
According to Politico , on the evening of October 23, the Turkish Air Force launched airstrikes on PKK targets in northern Syria and Iraq in response to the terrorist attack.
Anadolu said 32 targets had been destroyed and the air campaign was continuing. The Turkish defence ministry said the armed forces would "continue the fight against terrorism with determination and determination until not a single terrorist remains ".
TUSAS is Turkey's largest aerospace manufacturer, currently producing trainer aircraft, combat helicopters and civilian helicopters, as well as developing the country's first indigenous fighter jet, the KAAN.
Owned by the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation and the government, the group employs more than 10,000 people.
