London [UK], October 3: This far-right, populist and nationalist party has been in power in Austria for the past few years, but for the first time it has become the largest political party in parliament and is now in power as a larger coalition partner, in a position of power in the coalition government. In other words, for the first time Austria has a far-right, populist and nationalist head of government.
Such a result is bad news for the EU because the victory of the far-right, populist and nationalist forces in Austria not only confirms but also strengthens and encourages the strong and visible rise of far-right, populist and nationalist forces in many other places in Europe.
This political trend and level of development is very unfavorable, even dangerous for the EU, causing the bloc more difficulties, hardships and dilemmas in many policy areas and in many issues that have long been raised for the EU. The most prominent are the refugee and migration issues, solidarity, internal unity, cooperation in security, military and defense within the bloc, relations with the US and China, especially related to the conflict in Ukraine as well as tensions in the Middle East and the Gulf.
The next bad news for the EU is that the FPO is closely linked to Russian President Vladimir Putin 's United Russia party . For the EU, the FPO's election victory is nothing more than a political victory for Russia and for Putin personally. With the FPO in power in Austria, it will be even harder for the EU to reach a consensus on the Ukraine conflict
